Thank you for your interest in Music lessons and for your interest in having me as your instructor. My name is Alexander Starz.
I am a linguist, dyslexia trainer, musician, and professional teacher with over 20 years of teaching experience.I have taught students of all ages and on all levels.
I have worked in Germany, the U.S., and Austria. The language of instruction can either be English or German.
I teach stringed instruments (violin, viola, cello, and guitar), wind instruments (flute and recorder), and Early Music Education.
I also offer Ensemble classes for interested students.
Growing up in Europe, my own musical education followed the traditional model that uses sheet music from the beginning and in general seems to like paper a lot.
Teaching in the U.S., I got to know the Suzuki Method, which opens a more hands-on approach to learning Music by putting ability before knowledge.
Looking to improve professionally, I got certified in Orff Schulwerk Pedagogy, which teaches Music together with movement and language as a holistic trinity.
All these elements are combined in my teaching.
Learning English has changed a lot over the past five decades. Today, there are dozens of theories of language aquisition. I try to integrate different approaches to provide
an engaging, succesful, and personalized learning experience.
I am a certified Dyslexia and Dyscalculia Trainer approved by IFDDA (International Federation of Dislexia and Dyscalculia Associations).I am happy to talk to you about support I can provide with these issues.
